Study programme

Faculty of operation and economics of transport and communications in the academic year 2017/2018 opening the following master study programmes with a total planned number of accepted students: in full-time study 565 students and in part-time study 65 students. Study in full-time form lasts for 2 years and in the part-time lasts for 3 years. After successful completion of the study to graduate with a Master's degree.

Graduate Employment

Road Transport

Graduates from the study programme Road Transport may find employment at all management levels of companies of road freight transport, bus transport, city public transport, in service and repair centres of road transports, at the logistics departments of production companies, in research and development organisations with transport orientation, in transport departments of industrial companies and state administration authorities.

Railway Transport

Graduates operate successfully at all management levels of railway operation, mainly as technologists and managers of ŽSR (Slovak Rails), with domestic and foreign operators of railway and combined transport. They find employment also in companies with large siding areas, forwarding companies, in projection, research and development organisations with transport orientation, at transport departments of industrial companies and state administration authorities, as well as at secondary vocational schools and universities.

Air Transport

Graduates are well-prepared for employment mainly in managerial positions of air service companies and organisations, airline companies and airports, providers of air services and provision of air transport (air operational services) anywhere in Europe and all over the world. They find employment also in state administration authorities and international organisations (Aviation Authority, Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development, EASA, ICAO, IATA, Galileo).

Water Transport

Graduates from the master level of the study programme are prepared to perform in all higher managerial positions in the company dealing with activities related to shipping operation management or activities of port and in management of forwarding companies mediating shipping and port services. Graduates may operate successfully also in the field of tourism in administration and control of passenger shipping, international organisations operating in the field of water transport, at state administration and local government authorities at all levels, in the field of managing the operation of multimodal logistical centres, etc. Graduates meet the requirements for professional competence according to the Act of the National Council of the Slovak Republic No. 338/2000 Coll. on inland navigation for doing business in water transport.

Technology of Aircraft Maintenance

Graduates are well-prepared for employment mainly in managerial positions of air service companies and organisations, airline companies and airports, providers of air services and provision of air transport (air operational services) anywhere in Europe and all over the world. They find employment also in state administration authorities and international organisations (Aviation Authority, Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development, EASA, ICAO, IATA, Galileo).

Postal Engineering

Graduates from the second level of university study gain complex knowledge in the field of economics and management of network companies, technologies of postal services and logistics, services of electronic communications, banking and financial sector. During the study they acquire knowledge necessary for solving, evaluating and decision-making of growingly more complex tasks of development quality enhancement of processes and creation of efficient value chains with application of modern diagnostic methods. In relation to the subjects in the field of economics and company management, finances, technological procedures and information-communication technologies, they are able to apply optimal process control methods of network companies. They master innovation management and gain ability to apply project management in specific company conditions.

Forwarding and Logistics

Graduates from this study meet the requirements for professional capability to perform licensed trades in road transport and forwarding. The graduates will operate successfully in forwarding and transport organisations at the departments of logistics in the executive and managerial positions of forwarders, transport and logistical organisations. The graduate holds knowledge of business in transport and forwarding and is prepared to establish their own company. Employment of graduates is also assumed in research and development organisations with transport orientation, at state administration authorities, as well as at secondary vocational schools and universities.

Economics and Management of Enterprise

Graduates from the second level of university study are able to analyse complex economic relations in company processes, propose and execute managerial decisions related to the operation of these processes. They are characterised by a high level of creativeness and independence in managerial decision-making. They have in-depth knowledge not only of the operational management of companies, but also in the field of strategic decision-making from the aspect of economics globalisation. They are capable of working with complex information systems in companies; show a high level of coping with organisation of managerial work and managerial communication.

Financial Management

The graduates of the Master's study programme Financial Management are expertly ready for managerial functions performing on top and middle management level in every type of enterprises. The graduates can also realize in the function of financial agent between corporation and financial market institutions and foreign countries, in the function of financial manager of non-profit organisation, as auditor, as consultant and in brokerage companies. The graduates have high rate of creativity and autonomy in financial decision-making. They have deep acquirements not only from operative in financial management of enterprise but also from the field of strategic decision-making in aspects of economic globalisation. The graduates can also work with complicated information systems in corporations.

Electronic Business and Management

Graduates from the second level of university study are able to decide in everyday situation in different types of business or service companies, in business operations and in the system of distribution channel units providing for mediation activities through using information and communication technologies and services. They are able to propose efficient solutions for establishing and operation of business entities. They find employment in managerial positions of top management, while they are able to handle managerial functions in relation to exploitation of information and communication technologies and services. They are able to work as executive managers in all types of companies in the field of business and services and operate as an active and control element in the value chain within electronic business and enterprise.

Quality of education

Faculty of operation and economics of transport and communications is one of the best faculty in the Slovak republic, as demonstrated by the fact that among the first universities in SR that the University of Žilina was included between Universities type of High school education institutions. see.

The Faculty of operation and economics of transport and communications is the Faculty evaluated positively. In 2007 by all faculties in the Slovak Republic was included the FPEDAS Faculty the seventh place. see.

In 2010 by all economics faculties in the Slovak Republic was included the FPEDAS Faculty the fifth place. The evaluation was:

  • The evaluation of teachers and students - 78 points (max. 84),
  • Interested in studying - 56 points (max. 56).

Care for graduates

Faculty of operation and economics of transport and communications monitor the enforcement of its graduates on the labour market. Each graduate we will contact in respect of its application in practice and ask for a referral. Recommendation processing into the content of the study so as to reflect the requirements of the learning experience. Also monitoring the number of job seeker registered at the employment office.

School-fee

For degree programs in full-time form in English language are apply school-fees. About the actual school-fees please ask the Study Department.

For degree programs in full-time form in Slovak language at the FPEDAS Faculty does not apply the school-fees.

Application

  • For master study the data of previous study results for applicants that were or are the students of bachelor study at the Faculty Of Operation and Economics of Transport and Communications of the University of Žilina will be completed in the application by the Student’s Affairs Office of the Faculty Of Operation and Economics of Transport and Communications of the University of Žilina. Other applicants shall attach the extract of subjects and marks gained during the previous university study confirmed by the faculty or university that issued the extract and study completion document (diploma, annex to diploma).
  • A copy of the payment slip confirming payment or copy of the transfer order must be attached to the application. Each applicant is obliged to bring in person the original of the payment slip or original of the transfer order for presenting on the admission procedure date.
  • Curriculum vitae.
  • Original of the university study diploma will be returned to the applicant against signature after the admission procedure ended on the entrance examination date.

Admission Conditions

All applicants must come to the entrance examination on the defined date where mandatory attachments of the application will be checked. In case that the applicant meets the conditions for admission without entrance examination, only by an interview, based on the achieved study result average, these results will be checked by the committee on the date of the entrance examination.

  1. Without entrance examination, only by interview

    For the study programmes Road Transport, Railway Transport, Air Transport, Water Transport, Forwarding and Logistics, Postal Engineering, and Technology of Aircraft Maintenance applicants are admitted without entrance examination, only by interview, who successfully completed the 1st level university study in the study programme specified in the following table and during the 1st level study achieved weighted study mark average of up to 1.60 including.

  2. By attending entrance examination, writing tests

    Applicants that may not be admitted without entrance examination to the study programmes Road Transport, Railway Transport, Air Transport, Water Transport, Forwarding and Logistics, Postal Engineering and Technology of Aircraft Maintenance will attend a written test of professional knowledge. The written test will be compiled based on the curriculum of the 1st level university study for which the master study programme is the following study programme. The condition for enrolling in the list of applicants for this study is completion of the 1st level university study in the same or related study programme.

    For the study programme Economics and Management of Enterprise, Financial Management and Electronic Business and Management the applicants for study will take a written test from Mathematics, foreign language and Economics.
    The condition for enrolling in the list of applicants for this study is completion of the 1st level university study in the same or related study programme.

    Admitted applicants for study that completed the 2nd level university study in another study programme (already hold the master title “Ing.”) will be registered in the 1st year of master study only after payment of the fee in the amount determined pursuant to Section 92 of the Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher-Education Institutions and in compliance with the Statute of the University of Žilina.
