The historical beginnings of the conference go back to the 1990s, when within the framework of international scientific and technical cooperation, projects began to form a group of researchers and teachers from the Department of Communications, Faculty of Operation and Economics of Transport and Communications, (back then College of Transport and Communications – from 20.11.1996 University of Žilina) and the Faculty of Economics of Technical University of Ostrava. Their common interest focused on the research of tools for diagnostics of the external and internal environment of the company. Mutual discussions and workshops organized in the form of seminars were held at regular intervals from 1996 to 2001 under the guidance of professor Čorejova and professor Rostašová (both from University of Žilina) and colleagues from the Czech Republic associate professor Grúblová and engineer Michalko (both from Technical University of Ostrave). These seminars laid the foundation for further scientific direction in the area of “Managerial diagnostics and company therapy”. During this period, the exploration of tools, methods and the search for new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches became even more important as quality requirements have started to resonate in business strategies. Therefore, in 2002, the Department of Communications of the University of Žilina in cooperation with Technical University of Ostrava organized the first international scientific conference “Company Diagnostics, Controlling and Logistics”. Almost 50 scientific articles were presented at the conference. These articles were dedicated to the application of internal and external diagnostic tools in the field of business management and economy, human resources, processes and services. Since 2002, the conference has been held regularly every two years.
The current 10th year of the international scientific conference “Company Diagnostics, Controlling and Logistics”, which takes place on 23th – 24th April, 2020 at the University of Žilina, in meeting room of Scientific Board of University of Žilina (Vysokoškolákov 26, Veľký Diel, Žilina) naturally follows up on previous conferences and scientific contributions and brings new knowledge, insights and outputs from research projects recently solved at the individual workplaces of universities, research centres and business practice. The 10th year of the conference is organized by the Department of Communications, Faculty of Operation and Economics of Transport and Communications of the University of Žilina in cooperation with the University of Visegrad Association.
Today, we are all exposed to a multitude of influences, which are related to the technological, cultural and ideological questions. Reaction to these influences is not always simple, straightforward, unambiguous and immediate. Universities should create space and play a decisive role not only in accordance with their main roles in education and research, but especially in developing critical thinking and exploiting academic freedoms and humanism for society. The changes in the context of creation of digital space affect the openness and availability of information sources in the new formulation of tasks and processes. Tools, procedures and processes of diagnostics, controlling and logistics are gaining importance. Increasingly sophisticated technologies change entire processes, businesses, industries and markets. They change an individual’s life, ways of work, usage of time, formation of skills and attitudes. Everything in connection with security, sustainability, connectivity, support for creativity and invention is today mainly associated with the opportunities and threats of Industry 4.0. The conference “Company Diagnostics, Controlling and Logistics” thus gives an opportunity: to find answers to unanswered questions, to find solutions, to discuss new procedures, processes and impacts of individual phenomena in society on: the activities of economic operators, the environment in which we live and work, the system of education and R&D and the output of businesses and universities. The conference as a form of realization of the theoretical concept of the knowledge triangle is also a platform for deepening mutual relations between education, R&D and business environment.
